Singer Jamaica will turn down the volume on its retail footprint, closing two stores this month as it fine-tunes its operations.

The affected outlets are located at 21 Constant Spring Road in St Andrew, known as the mega store, and at 18–20 King Street in downtown Kingston.

The closures will reduce the company’s islandwide store count from 20 to 18, according to a notice from the furniture and appliance retailer.

The company wants to streamline operations and concentrate resources on its remaining branches.

“We are committed to continuing to serve our customers through our 18 branches islandwide,” the company stated in the notice.

According to the notice, the King Street store will cease operations on Saturday, June 14, 2025, while the Constant Spring Road store will follow on Monday, June 30.

The Financial Gleaner was unable to reach Singer's management for comment.

Singer Jamaica, a household name in home retailing, competes primarily with Courts Jamaica.

Both companies operate extensive retail networks and offer hire-purchase agreements, though neither discloses financial performance publicly.

Singer has assured customers, particularly those in the Corporate Area, that alternative store locations are available.

“Our staff at the Village and Cross Roads stores remain dedicated and ready to provide all our customers from the mega and King Street stores with the best products and services,” the notice stated.

Customers with hire-purchase accounts can continue making payments at any Singer location islandwide, including through banking partners.

The move highlights Singer’s ongoing efforts to optimise operations amid a competitive retail landscape increasingly shaped by digital transformation and shifting consumer habits.
