72-y-o man gets 10 years in prison for rape of underage girls left in his care
A 72-year-old man who pleaded guilty to five counts of rape and two counts of sexual touching of a child was on Thursday sentenced to a total of 15 years imprisonment.
He was sentenced by Justice Bertram Morrison in the Home Circuit Court to 10 years for rape and five years for sexual touching.
The sentences are to run concurrently; therefore, he will only serve 10 years.
The man had pleaded guilty last October in the St Catherine Circuit.
It was recommended that his name be entered on the Sex Offenders Registry.
The court heard that in 2021, the elderly man committed sexual crimes against three underage girls who were left in his care.
In February 2022, one of the complainants visited another parish to see a relative and related her ordeal.
A report was made to the Linstead police and the Centre for Investigation of Sexual Offences and Child Abuse launched a probe into the matter.
The man was arrested and subsequently charged with rape and sexual touching of a child.
