Man fatally shot during police operation in Ackee Village, St Catherine identified
The police have identified the man who was shot and killed during an alleged confrontation with a police-military team in Ackee Village, St Catherine on Thursday.
He is 28-year-old Joseph Dixon, otherwise called 'Boysie', of Ackee Village in Dam Head.
Reports are that about 6:15 a.m., a team of police and soldiers conducted an intelligence-driven operation in the Ackee Village area.
The team, which was armed with a search warrant, entered a premises where Dixon was seen inside.
According to the police, Dixon was observed with a handgun, which he reportedly pointed at the lawmen.
The team took evasive action and fired in his direction, hitting him.
A search of the scene revealed Dixon lying beside a firearm. '
The weapon — a Smith & Wesson pistol fitted with a magazine containing seven rounds of .40 calibre ammunition — was seized.
Dixon was taken to the Spanish Town Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
The Independent Commission of Investigations has since launched a probe into the incident.
