Old Harbour Bay, St Catherine fish vendor Abigail Morgan, who attacked and stabbed a man while he was at a police station filing a report against her, is to pay him $500,000 in compensation following a mediation agreement.

The deal was indicated in court on Tuesday when the case was called up.

The charge of wounding with intent was dismissed, and Morgan pleaded guilty to possession of an offensive weapon and was fined $4,000 or 30 days’ imprisonment.

The court was told that the money is to be paid in instalments, starting in October.

Arising from the mediation, the Crown subsequently offered no evidence, and Acting Senior Parish Court Judge Janelle Nelson-Gayle dismissed the case.

The court had heard that on June 17, the man and the woman were at the Old Harbour Fishing Beach when they had a dispute over the sale of fish.

The confrontation became physical, and the complainant went to report the matter at the Old Harbour Bay Police Station.

He was attacked inside the station by Morgan, who stabbed him in the upper body with a knife.

The injured complainant was assisted to the Spanish Town Hospital, where he was admitted for several weeks for his injuries.

Morgan was arrested and subsequently charged, and made several court appearances.

She was represented by attorney-at-law Richard Lynch.
