Psychiatric evaluation ordered for police constable charged with murder of girlfriend in St Mary
A psychiatric evaluation has been ordered for Constable Patrick Walters, who is accused of killing his 20-year-old girlfriend, D’Jonnay Graham, in an alleged attempted murder-suicide last month in St Mary.
The 22-year-old policeman is facing charges of murder and using a firearm to commit a felony in connection with the June 25 fatal shooting at Graham’s home in Richmond, St Mary.
He was, however, remanded on Tuesday when he appeared in St Mary Parish Court, where a nolle prosequi was entered by the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions to have the matter discontinued in the lower court and proceed to the high court.
The case was moved to the St Mary Circuit Court and is expected to be mentioned on November 26.
The prosecutor, in the meantime, has indicated that the case file is incomplete, as there are several outstanding files.
However, attorney Donahue Martin, who is representing the accused, has requested disclosure.
Reports are that around 9:15 p.m. on the night of the incident, Graham and Walters were involved in a domestic dispute during which she was shot.
Police were summoned and, upon arrival, found both individuals suffering from gunshot wounds.
They were transported to hospital, where Graham was pronounced dead.
Walters was admitted in serious condition and later taken into police custody following his release.
