Manchester legal consultant, 61-year-old Christopher Powell, has been charged with fraud for allegedly failing to return $8.9 million given to him by a man as part payment towards purchasing an apartment in St Andrew.

Powell is charged with fraudulent conversion.

Reports from the Half-Way Tree police are that in January 2024, Powell allegedly collected $8.9 million as part payment on a two-bedroom apartment located in Kingston 10.

The apartment was reportedly valued at $50 million, according to the police.

The complainant subsequently became suspicious and requested a refund, but Powell allegedly became elusive.

The matter was later reported to the police, and an investigation was launched.

On Friday, August 8, Powell was arrested in Mandeville and transported to Half-Way Tree in St Andrew, where he was charged following a question-and-answer session.

His court date is being finalised.
