Incumbent Tova Hamilton says she will retain the Trelawny Northern seat for the Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) and vows to continue her work in the constituency.

“I am confident that the people will return me as Member of Parliament for Trelawny Northern so that I can continue to rescue the constituency from 31 years of neglect,” said Hamilton, an attorney at law, following her nomination today.

The People’s National Party’s Dr Wykeham McNeill is seeking to take the seat.

Hamilton said she sees no contest from McNeill.

"He is a loser. He should stay in Westmoreland and redeem himself, having lost there.”

In one of the shock defeats of the 2020 election, McNeill, then a People’s National Party vice-president, was defeated by political neophyte Morland Wilson as the JLP swept the west.

Wilson received 6,148 votes while McNeill polled 5,095 votes.
