Head of the St Elizabeth police, Superintendent Coleridge Minto, has confirmed that a man seen in a video making threats regarding the outcome of the September 3 general elections has been arrested and charged.

He is Giovannie Skeen, also called ‘Mother Love’, a clothes vendor of Marlborough district in Balaclava, St Elizabeth.

The police say a viral social media video was brought to their attention in which Skeen was recorded saying that if the People's National Party (PNP) candidate in his constituency does not win in the upcoming general election, he would cause violence to ensue in the area.

The video, which was posted to his TikTok page captured his use of phrases such as, “if we no win, we ago turn the world inna Haiti, pure big matic and rifle" and “me wi murder people fi me party”.

As a result of the post, on Wednesday the police carried out a targeted operation in the Balaclava community, where Skeen was seen and detained.

He was later charged with use of audiovisual communication to promote violence.
