Jamaica has recorded another week of double-digit murders, according to the latest serious crime statistics published by the Jamaica Constabulary Force on Sunday.

For the period 31 August to 6 September, 10 Jamaicans were killed.

Among those killed during the period was a man who was gunned down in Trinity, Manchester on election day on September 3.

He is Gerronoe Walsh, 28, unemployed, of Trinity in Porus, Manchester.

The week before — 24 to 30 August — saw 23 murders.

Jamaica's murder toll, as at 6 September, stands at 469.

The data represents a 42 per cent year-on-year reduction.

At this point last year, 809 people had been killed — representing 340 fewer murders this year.

Prior to the week of 23 murders, the country had been experiencing several consecutive weeks of single-digit homicides.

St Andrew South (56), St Ann and St Catherine South (42 each), St James (41), and St Catherine North (27) round out the top five police divisions with the most murders so far this year.

Shootings, injured persons, and rape have declined year-on-year.

Robbery and break-ins, however, continue to increase — by 13 and 27 per cent, respectively.
