Munro College and Coach Kemar Ricketts part ways
Munro College and football head coach, Kemar Ricketts, have agreed to part ways amid the first round of the 2025 season of the ISSA Schoolboy Football Competition.
Ricketts was the coach last season and returned at the start of this season.
Despite high hopes for Munro breaking its 61-year drought of winning the competition, according to Ricketts, the team faced challenges, including a disappointing pre-season.
“Pre-season wouldn’t have gone exactly as we would have wanted it to in terms of preparation and recruitment, but we still wanted to do well,” said Ricketts.
It is uncertain at this time who will replace Ricketts.
“Our first game of the season, we lost, and I think from that point they wanted to go in a different direction. We decided we could mutually agree, and that’s what happened,” added Ricketts.
Last season, it had been 17 years since Munro advanced to the quarter-finals of the daCosta Cup.
As for the future, Ricketts said he is focused on coaching the Jamaica Premier League team and pursuing other interests.
“I am concentrating on the other thing that is important — my coaching job, which is with the JPL team, Treasure Beach FC. My family also, and I am pursuing my A licence, which I am now doing,” said Ricketts.
“The door is open for other school teams in the near future, so it’s just to re-energise, keep focused, and keep going,” added Ricketts.
In their next match-up, Munro will host Sydney Pagon STEM at 3:30 p.m.
