Cornwall College opens memorabilia store

Cornwall College has officially opened a memorabilia store, a venture principal Michael Ellis says will boost school spirit and strengthen the institution’s connection with both students and alumni.

Speaking at Monday’s launch at the school's Montego Bay campus at Orange Street, Ellis described the initiative as “long in coming” and one that has been eagerly anticipated by the school community.

“We have been talking about opening a store where we can archive our memorabilia,” Ellis said, referencing the global impact of the 129-year-old all-boys school. “Old boys have been asking why we have not established something like this for a long time.”

The principal noted that current students are also enthusiastic about the memorabilia.

“The student population is very much interested in the memorabilia, to the point that they are asking if they can wear their Cornwall College armbands with their uniform to school,” he explained. “We sort of give them a little leverage where that is concerned if they make the purchase here [at the Cornwall College Memorabilia & More store].”

Items on sale include shirts, mugs, armbands, homework books, pins, football jerseys and shoes. Ellis described the launch as both timely and significant.

“It has been long in coming, it’s welcome and well timed, and we are just ecstatic about it,” he said. “We can also use the goods to incentivise our high-performing students.”

The memorabilia store forms part of wider efforts to reinforce the Cornwall College brand, while also providing business studies students with hands-on experience in managing and operating a business venture.
