NWC says water restoration in St Thomas progressing, 29 of 36 water systems now operational
National Water Commission (NWC) says it is making every effort to restore regular water supply to customers in Heartease, Gutter Head, and Norris in St Thomas on or before Friday, November 14.
The NWC explains that this delay in resumption post-Hurricane Melissa is attributed to blocked pipelines restricting inflows to its Easington facility, revealed during a system assessment.
The commission says it is installing new pipelines from the source to the facility and decommissioning the old network to mitigate further delays.
The NWC says considerable progress has been made with water restoration in St Thomas, with 29 out of 36 water systems now operational.
The utility company says it is working closely with the Jamaica Public Service Company and other contractors to get the remaining facilities back in operation as quickly as possible.
Meanwhile, its teams are working around the clock to reinstall and/or replace damaged pipelines, rewire water-damaged electrical cables, clear downed power lines, and clear blocked river intakes and facilities obstructed by fallen trees.
Customers are reminded that as facilities and networks normalise, low water pressure, intermittent interruptions, and other operational challenges are likely.
