The Jamaica Agricultural Commodities Regulatory Authority (JACRA) has delivered 5,000 bags of fertiliser, valued at approximately $35 million, to support recovery in the coffee industry following Hurricane Melissa.

The Jamaica Coffee Growers Association and Jamaica Coffee Exporters Association received a combined 2,000 bags, valued at about $10 million. The handover was carried out at JACRA’s offices in Kingston on Wednesday.

Speaking at the event, JACRA’s Acting Director General, Wayne Hunter, said the sector is vital to the country.

“Jamaica’s world-renowned Blue Mountain and High Mountain Coffees are more than agricultural products; they are national assets. They contribute meaningfully to foreign exchange earnings, rural employment, and Brand Jamaica’s global reputation for quality,” he said.

Hunter also noted the need for coordinated recovery efforts. “Recovery under these circumstances requires more than resilience—it requires coordinated intervention, targeted support, and decisive action,” he added.

The fertiliser handover is part of JACRA’s ongoing efforts to help farmers restore tree health, stabilise yields, and maintain the global quality of Jamaican coffee.
