Broken-down truck blocks Junction main road in St Mary
The St Mary police are advising that the Junction main road is blocked between Friendship Gap and Devon Pen due to a truck that has broken down.
As a result, motorists travelling to Kingston via Annotto Bay are being urged to use an alternative route through Richmond, into Rock River, then Scott’s Hall, exiting at Grandy Hole.
Similarly, motorists heading from Kingston towards Annotto Bay and other eastern destinations are advised to detour via Grandy Hole, journey through Scott’s Hall, Rock River and Richmond, then continue through Highgate into Port Maria or Annotto Bay.
Member of Parliament for St Mary South Eastern, Christopher Brown, said his understanding is that the truck, which reportedly had its crane dislodged, is blocking the main thoroughfare and forcing motorists to travel a longer distance.
“I am actually going through the detour as well. So I am actually in the Rock River area now going through to Scott's Hall,” he said late Tuesday evening.
“The traffic is quite heavy, slow and winding. A lot of these motorists don’t know this alternative route. Very large trucks are actually touching the electrical cords. So it is a very tricky sojourn. Hoping that we can have the matter sorted out on the main road soonest.”
Brown said the obstruction will require specialised equipment to clear.
“It’s not a landslide, so it is actually going to require some heavy-duty wrecker to come and actually remove the truck and the accompanying wreckage that is causing the blockage of the Junction main road,” he concluded.
