A 33-year-old woman from Portmore, St Catherine has been charged after allegedly advertising a property for rent, collecting a down payment, and providing a key to a unit that could not later be located.
She is Janice Linton from Waterford, a police statement said on Saturday.
According to the Portmore police, between Thursday, December 4, and Monday, December 8, Linton advertised a property for rent on an online platform.
She reportedly received $75,000 from a woman as a down payment and provided a key to the unit. However, the property could not be located.
A report was subsequently made to the police.
Linton was taken into custody on Thursday December 24, during an operation, the police say.
She was charged after a question-and-answer session in the presence of her attorney.
