Kahira Jones, one of the men accused in the highly publicised Vybz Kartel murder trial, was released from prison this morning after spending nearly 15 years behind bars.

Jones was among four men convicted in 2014 for the murder of Clive ‘Lizard’ Williams, alongside dancehall artistes Vybz Kartel and Shawn Storm, as well as Andre St John.

While the others were freed in July 2024 after their convictions were quashed by the United Kingdom-based Privy Council, Jones remained incarcerated as he was serving a sentence for three firearm-related offences.

In 2019, Jones was sentenced to 18 years in prison for wounding with intent and eight years each for illegal possession of firearm and ammunition.

At the time, High Court judge Lisa Palmer Hamilton ordered that the both eight-year sentences should be served consecutively, but simultaneously with the 18-year sentence.
