St Andrew security guard charged over gun seizure
A 41-year-old security guard has been charged over the seizure of a firearm during a police operation in Zaidie Gardens, St Andrew on December 26.
The accused, Keven Smith, from Seaview Gardens in St Andrew, is charged with possession of a prohibited weapon, unauthorised possession of ammunition, and unauthorised use of blue lights.
The police say he was observed driving a red Kia Seltos SUV equipped with flashing blue lights around 11:30 p.m., a police statement said.
Police signalled him to stop, and he complied.
Upon exiting the vehicle, officers reportedly noticed bulges on both sides of his waist. A search revealed a Taurus G2C firearm with an attached magazine containing four rounds, and a Glock magazine holding one .40 calibre cartridge, the statement said.
The police say he failed to provide documentation for the firearm or ammunition.
