Reggae Boy Cory Burke is among four men charged following an incident at a football match in Portmore on Sunday, during which two police officers were allegedly assaulted, the police say.
They have been charged with assaulting the police, resisting arrest, disorderly conduct, and indecent language.
The accused are 34-year-old Burke, a footballer of King Street, Spanish Town; 38-year-old Keronie Moffat, a customer service representative of Daphnel Avenue, Eltham Park; 32-year-old construction worker Cavel Christie of Salt Pond Road, Spanish Town; and 43-year-old contractor Conroy Green of Dixon Avenue, Maryland 7 Spring, United States.
Police said the charges arose from an incident at Ferdi Neita Park in Braeton, Portmore, St Catherine, at about 4:30 p.m.
According to the Portmore police, the men were occupants of a white Toyota Noah motor vehicle that was blocking an entrance and causing a disturbance during a football match.
The police reported that officers instructed the driver to move the vehicle, but he refused. The occupants then exited the vehicle, behaved disorderly, and used indecent language toward the police.
When officers attempted to make arrests, the men reportedly resisted and physically attacked two policemen. Both officers sustained injuries, the police said.
The police said additional men later joined in the assault, the statement said.
Fearing for their safety, the officers fired a single round into the air, which caused the attackers to disperse, the statement said.
Additional police units were called, and the accused men were later identified and taken into custody.
