A 30-year-old handcart operator has been charged with gun possession, buggery and robbery after he allegedly attacked a man during an incident in New Habour Village in Old Harbour, St Catherine, the police say.

The accused man, from Marlie Hill, Browns Hall in St Catherine, was charged in connection with an incident reported to have occurred about 3:15 p.m. January 13, a statement said Tuesday.

According to reports from the Old Harbour police, the accused met a man at a fast-food establishment in the area. The man reportedly agreed to visit the accused man’s home, but was instead led to an abandoned building.

Police allege that the accused man brandished a firearm and robbed the man of an iPhone 16 Pro Max valued at approximately $200,000, his car keys, and a wallet containing bank cards, identification cards and $15,000.

Investigators allege that the man was sexually assaulted after the robbery.

The police were subsequently alerted and, upon their arrival, the accused man was pointed out to them. He was accosted and searched, and a Taurus A .38 revolver was allegedly found in his waistband.

The firearm was seized and the accused man taken into custody, where he was later charged.
