Persons with disabilities are encouraged to sign up on the Jamaica Council for Persons with Disabilities (JCPD) ‘I Am Able: My JCPD’ digital platform, which is designed to enhance access to services and promote inclusion.

The secure, user-friendly platform, developed in collaboration with the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), allows individuals to digitally register with the JCPD, reducing the need for repeated in-person visits.

It improves access to benefits, programmes, and resources administered or facilitated by the Council, while strengthening referral pathways to partner ministries, agencies, and service providers.

Addressing a recent JIS Think Tank, Executive Director of the JCPD, Dr. Christine Hendricks, said that the platform, launched in July 2025, aligns with the Government’s digital transformation agenda and its broader social protection framework.

She said it represents a major step forward in modernising service delivery for persons with disabilities, by reducing administrative burdens and improving coordination.

Importantly, the platform enhances the JCPD’s capacity to support evidence-based planning and inclusive policymaking, advancing the rights, inclusion, and well-being of persons with disabilities.

Dr. Hendricks noted that digital solutions such as I Am Able enable the JCPD to respond more efficiently to the needs of its clients.

“These tools allow us to better identify gaps, plan interventions, and improve coordination across sectors. Most importantly, they empower persons with disabilities by giving them greater control over how they access services,” she said.

By improving access to information and strengthening referrals, I Am Able represents a modern, data-driven approach to advancing disability inclusion nationwide. This initiative underscores the Government’s unwavering commitment to building an inclusive society, ensuring that persons with disabilities are not left behind.

The JCPD is a statutory body under the Ministry of Labour and Social Security.
