Manchester man charged after alleged break-in and attempted rape

A 26-year-old man from Manchester has been arrested and charged after allegedly breaking into a woman’s home while she was sleeping and attempting to rape her.

Damani Richards of Golden Run district in Craighead has been charged with burglary and assault with intent to rape.

Reports from the Mandeville police indicate that about 2:30 a.m. on Friday, March 13, the woman awoke to find her bedroom door open, despite having locked it before going to bed.

It is further reported that while she was in the process of closing the door, Richards allegedly attacked her and attempted to rape her.

According to the police, the woman managed to thwart the attack, after which the accused fled the house.

A report was made to the police, and following investigations, Richards was taken into custody during a targeted operation.

He was charged on Monday, March 23, after being identified during an identification parade.

His court date is being finalised.
