Fisherman freed after explaining he was carrying knife to scale fish

A fisherman was freed in the St Catherine Parish Court on Tuesday after producing his fisherman's identification card and providing an explanation for possession of an offensive weapon.
 
When Carlington Ferris appeared in court  on  Tuesday, he shed tears as he explained to the court why he was in possession of a knife.
 
"Guilty with explanation Your Honour," he stated. "The day mi just come back from Pedro Cays and have a igloo wid fish selling, so the knife was for scaling the fish dem."
 
Senior Parish Court Judge Desiree Alleyne dismissed the case following discussion with the clerk of courts.
 
The court was told that Ferris was arrested after the police observed him and another man involved in an argument along Hellshire Beach in St Catherine on April 30.
 
He was accosted and searched and a small pocket knife found in his possession.
 
He was arrested and subsequently charged with possession of an offensive weapon.
