Motorists travelling between St Andrew and St Mary are being advised to make alternative travel arrangements as a section of Long Lane main road in St Andrew is scheduled to be closed this weekend to facilitate repairs.

The National Works Agency (NWA) said a 20-metre stretch of the roadway in the vicinity of Orange Grove will be closed from 10 p.m. on Friday, June 5, until 3 a.m. on Monday, June 8.

Long Lane serves as a key link for motorists travelling between sections of St Andrew and communities in St Mary, particularly those using the Junction corridor and Stony Hill route to access Kingston and the wider Corporate Area.

The closure is therefore expected to affect a significant number of commuters and commercial operators.

The authorities say the temporary closure is necessary to facilitate critical repairs. The NWA is urging motorists to obey posted traffic signs and directions from traffic management personnel.

Road users are also being encouraged to allow additional travel time, particularly during peak periods, as increased traffic volumes are expected along the diversion route.

Proposed alternative route:

Old Stony Hill Road - Mountain Slope  - Ridgefield Avenue - Bridgemount Park Avenue - Fourwinds Avenue - Continue back onto Long Lane
