Four men were killed on Jamaica’s roadways on Wednesday, including three who died in a three-vehicle collision in Trelawny.
Traffic Officer for the Trelawny police, Sergeant Kirkland Cross, told The Gleaner that the accident happened at about 9:30 a.m.
"It involved a Toyota Hiace, a Toyota Voxy and a Toyota Fielder. Those confirmed dead are Jahmar Johnson, the 22-year-old driver of the Voxy; Clinton Douglas, the 60-year-old driver of the Hiace; and Jodeil Johns, 54," he said.
According to Cross, a number of persons sustained injuries and were transported to Falmouth Hospital.
"Investigations are continuing," said Cross.
Meanwhile, the fourth man, whose age has not been ascertained, was a passenger in one of the vehicles.
One hundred and thirty-four people have died in motor vehicle crashes across Jamaica since the start of this year, according to the latest police statistics.
This is 42 or 24 per cent less than the comparative period last year.
The three-vehicle crash occurred about 9:00 p.m. along the Braco main road, according to a police report.
“Excessive speed with no regards to [the] condition” of the roadway; overtaking improperly “on the offside", and “losing control” were listed in the report as possible causes of the crash.
Regarding the other crash, which occurred about 5:30 a.m. along the Llandovery main road in St Ann, it involved two vehicles.
“Inattention/diverted attention, apparent error of judgment/negligence,” and pulling out from the offside “without due car” were listed as possible causes for the crash.
