3-2 win a confidence booster for JC
Andrew Peart, coach of defending champions Jamaica College (JC), said yesterday's close 3-2 victory over Hydel High in Group F of the ISSA/Digicel Manning Cup competition will help to build his team's confidence in its quest to retain the title.
Javian Thompson (37th), Tajay Smith (54th), and Norman Campbell (74th) were the scorers for JC, who are seeking their sixth straight hold on the title.
Fakibi Farquharson (45th) and substitute Jordane Cameron (82nd ) were the scorers for Hydel. The match was played at the Caymanas field in Ferry.
The victory has moved JC to 16 points, three ahead of Hydel, who were suffering their first defeat of the season.
Peart said that he was happy for the win because they are now the sole leaders of the group.
"It is important for us to claim top spot in the group because based on the five games that we have played in the group so far, we saw Hydel as the danger to us," said Peart.
"The first game showed that as well, and so it was very important for us to separate ourselves from Hydel and the other teams in the group," he said.
Peart added that he was also very pleased with the overall performance of his team.
"We managed to control the game and that is really good, and we managed to keep Hydel from getting chances on the counterattack," said Peart.
"We also managed to keep possession of the ball well, and we also created a lot of scoring chances, which is good for us," he said.
On the other hand, Corey Bennett, the coach of Hydel, was disappointed with his team's performance.
"I think we played in patches, and I think that sometimes, we played too individualistic," Bennett said.
"We didn't follow the game plan, but, hopefully, we will get it right going forward," he said.
