Philadelphia Union forward Cory Burke, who has been sidelined and stranded in the country since May due to issues with his travel documents, has been included in Theodore Whitmore’s 19-man training squad called up to prepare for the Nations League games against Antigua and Barbuda on September 6 and Guyana on September 9.

Burke, the only overseas contracted player name to the squad, has been out of action since his unspecified documentation situation came up in early May.

However, the former Rivoli frontman has been spotted training with Red Stripe Premier League (RSPL) new boys, Molynes United, and former champions Harbour View recently.

Looking to stay active

One source revealed that the 27-year-old forward is looking to stay active by taking on a loan deal with a local Premier League club until he is able to travel.

His complication was expected to be resolved within six months.

Burke had an impressive debut season with the Union in 2018, scoring 11 goals in 30 matches.

However, he only managed seven games and two goals this season, before his documentation troubles came to the fore. The player, who was also forced to miss the Concacaf Gold Cup, has netted six goals in 16 appearances for the Reggae Boyz.Meanwhile, the training squad also includes first-time call up, Emelio Rousseau and four Cavalier players, Alex Marshall, Kaheem Parris, Clifton Woodbine and Leonard Rankine.

The other players are Andre Lewis, Tevin Shaw (Portmore), Ladale Richie, Daniel Green, Kevaughn Isaacs (Mount Pleasant), Kemar Bennett, Ajeanie Talbott (Harbour View), Amal Knight, Fabion McCarthy (UWI), Jeadin White, Kevon Reid (Humble Lion), Nicholas Hamilton (Tivoli) and Shaquille Dyer (Dunbeholden).

The players will be looking to impress the technical staff with the hopes of making the final cut of 23 players, which will commence training in Montego Bay on September 2 for the country’s two Nations League matches against Antigua and Barbuda.
