Form team Dunbeholden ease past Humble Lion
Dunbeholden continued their superb run of form since Harold Thomas took over as coach of the St Catherine-based club four matches ago when they came from behind to defeat Humble Lion 2-1 at the UWI-JFF Captain Horace Burrell Centre of Excellence on Friday.
With yesterday’s defeat, Humble Lion have lost all hope of a play-off spot as they are now six points off sixth place with just one game to play.
Andrew Vanzie fired the Clarendon team into the lead after 20 minutes but a brace from Mark Miller (32nd and 42nd) put Dunbeholden 2-1 up at the break and they held that score until the final whistle.
Assistant coach Ricardo Smith said the impact coach Harold Thomas continues to have on the players since coming has been magnificent.
‘ALL ABOUT DISCIPLINE’
“He (Thomas) is all about discipline. He is always pushing the players to do better and whenever they slip up, they are out,” he declared.
“We (Dunbeholden) were eighth after two matches in the round and we are third right now. So these three points are very valuable. It was not our best performance but we had to come out and give a good account, and we got the three points and that is what we came for,” he continued.
Humble Lion were the first out the blocks, as Vanzie got them off to a great start, firing a thunderous free kick past Damion Hyatt to take his tally for the season to five goals, one behind leading scorer Oquassa Chong.
But Miller restored parity just after the half hour when he slotted past Dennis Taylor in goal.
Then minutes before the interval, the midfielder was at it again as he ran on to an excellent through ball and fired past Taylor to give his team the lead at the break.
Humble Lion coach Andrew Price said his team was too inconsistent to really challenge this season.
“It has been a see-saw season. We have been up and down and there has been no consistency. We took the lead today and didn’t maintain it. We gave up two goals and that’s because we weren’t tracking properly,” he said.
“After taking the lead, we got complacent and allowed them to get behind our defensive unit and we need to get everyone to understand that defensive work is the work of the entire team,” he added.
Dunbeholden are third on 13 points, with two matches to go. Humble Lion sit 11th in the standing with six points and one game to go. In the first game of yesterday’s triple-header, Harbour View, courtesy of an Oquassa Chong goal, clipped Molynes United 1-0.
