Ricardo Gardner has left his role as head coach of Jamaica Premier League (JPL) reigning champions Portmore United.

The Club says Gardner's departure is because he has migrated to the United Kingdom, where he lived during his time as a professional footballer at Bolton Wanderers in the English Premier League.

The St Catherine-based club will now be taking instructions from Garnett Lawrence, who has been promoted from assistant coach to the head coach position.

Gardner said in a press release by the club that it was a tough decision to leave the team in the middle of the JPL season and praised the club for its professionalism.

“It was heart-wrenching for me to have to take the decision to take leave from the club in the middle of the Premier League competition," he said. "As a professional who is fully committed to his craft, it was indeed a most difficult decision."

Portmore are fourth in the JPL table with two games to play in the round.
