Mondon defends Escape Triathlon title
ELISABETH MONDON made a successful defence of her women’s title at the Escape Triathlon on the north coast. Mondon produced a balanced performance to repeat her 2019 victory in the event on Sunday.
Mondon was favoured for the 600-metre swim/20km cycle/5km combination event and delivered swim/cycle/run splits of nine minutes and 16 seconds; 51 minutes and 43 seconds; and 25 minutes and 21 seconds, for an overall time of one hour, 27 minutes and 43 seconds.
Born in France but representing Jamaica, she was well clear of Maria Serrano, who clocked one hour, 44 minutes and 58 seconds.
Jamaica’s 2018 Commonwealth Games representative, Llori Sharpe, did not compete.
Russian Alexey Zatysev was victorious in the men’s category over the Jamaican pair of Dayne Wright and Lance Rochester. Zatysev was especially strong in the swim and the five-kilometre run that ended at the Couples San Souci Resort in Ocho Rios. His winning time of one hour, 25 minutes and 56 seconds include swim/cycle/run splits of 11:21, 50:34 and 22:32, respectively.
Wright and Rochester logged overall times of 1:27.08 and 1.30.24.
