Go Deh Girl picks off She’s My Destiny’s hat-trick hopes
GO DEH GIRL matched SHE’S MY DESTINY, stride for stride, before quickening away from the local-bred inside the final furlong of yesterday’s Security Department Trophy race, leaving the 2-5 favourite floundering, finishing fourth in the five-furlong straight event.
Backed to land a hat-trick of wins on her overnight-allowance debut, SHE’S MY DESTINY, a runaway winner of back-to-back middle-distance races, broke sharply from her stands’ side draw, but never got a breather from GO DEH GIRL, who pressed from the start.
Fresh off a one-length sprint loss to last year’s classic-placed filly, SECRET IDENTITY, seasoned overnight-allowance runner GO DEH GIRL stayed on strongly to chase SHE’S MY DESTINY off the lead before holding off persistent RACE CAR, who ran a big race for second off an 18-month lay-up.
GO DEH GIRL, a four-year-old United States-bred filly, clocked 59.0 for five furlongs straight ahead of fellow importee, RACE CAR, handing owner Lakeland Farms an exacta.
Lakeland Farms struck with another foreigner in the following event, four-year-old colt, I’VE GOT MAGIC, who closed powerfully under veteran Everton Miller to nab speedy REGNANT stealing home at five and a half furlongs with Omar Walker.
Leading rider Dane Dawkins had a subdued afternoon, winless on the nine-race card, as champion jockey Anthony Thomas logged two winners, SPECIAL COUNSEL and STICKYDON, in the fourth and sixth, respectively.
Racing continues this afternoon with another nine-race card.
