Old boys’ influence driving Edwin Allen football
EDWIN ALLEN High School’s football programme has significantly improved over the past two seasons, and the school’s administration has pinpointed a partnership with the Past Edwin Allen Ballaz Association (PEABA) as the reason for that.
The association was formed in 2019 and is made up of former student athletes who represented the school in football. It is a non-profit association with members in several countries. The association is currently headed by Dallas Harris.
Principal Jermaine Harris, who was recently honoured in New York by PEABA, spoke about the mission of the association.
“The mission of PEABA is to provide assistance to the Edwin Allen High football teams, through fundraising events, charitable donations and sports scholarships, in a bid to aid in the development of the sport at the school,” said Harris.
“I started as principal of Edwin Allen in September 2021 and the relationship with PEABA has seen the school winning their first Ben Francis Cup title last year, and this year, the school is in the quarter-finals. The last time the school made it so far was in the 1990s with some of these same PEABA members,” said Harris.
“So far, PEABA has donated over $2 million in cash and kind to the football programme at Edwin Allen,” he said.
According to Harris, PEABA is also planning to build a dormitory in the near future, to house student athletes who are interested in representing the school in football.
