Kings stay perfect following win over Risers
THE SURREY Kings are proving a formidable side in this year’s Dream XI-sponsored Jamaica T10 competition, chalking up their third win in as many games following an eight-run win over the Surrey Risers in the second game of a doubleheader at Sabina Park yesterday.
The Kings posted 89 for seven in their allotted 10 overs before restricting the Risers to 81 for 3, also in 10 overs, to hand the latter their third consecutive loss of the campaign.
The Kings’ total was built largely around a couple of 23s from National opener Kirk Mckenzie and West Indies all-rounder Andre Russell, with the former getting his runs off 12 balls with three fours and a six. Russell’s runs also came off 12 balls with three sixes.
For the Risers, national fast bowler Gordon Bryan bagged three wickets for 12 runs, and Justin Walters took two for 16 runs.
The Risers got off to the worst possible start in their reply after Daniel Beckford was run out off the first ball of the innings.
Beckford’s opening partner, Nicholas Lewin, then took matters into his own hands, hitting three towering sixes in his knock of 19, however, he fell to Jeavor Royal with the score on 26 in the third over.
After Gordon Bryan succumbed to Shalome Parnell for 14 in the seventh over, Kashane Roberts tried to keep the run chase in check with an unbeaten knock of 26 from 20 balls, however, in the end, they fell eight runs short, with Lionel Morant not out on 11.
In the second game of the doubleheader, the Middlesex Titans picked up their second win, jumping into third place on six points following their narrow one-run win over the Cornwall Warriors.
The Titans first put 88 runs on the board for the loss of seven wickets before restricting the Warriors to 87 for eight.
Left-arm spinner Christopher Lamont was the man of the moment, picking up three wickets in the final over to secure the narrow win.
