#BudaQuest | Sparkling performance sends Jamaica into women’s 4x100 final
Elaine Thompson-Herah showed she was in better health than at the Jamaican National Championships at the World Athletics Championships with a storming second-leg in the heats of today’s women’s 4x100 metres.
The Jamaica quartet of Briana Williams, Thompson-Herah, Shashalee Forbes, and Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce won heat one in 41.70 seconds, nearly a second ahead of Great Britain, who were second in a season’s best 42.33.
Thompson-Herah clocked 9.90 seconds on her second leg, much quicker than everybody else, save Spain’s Jaël Bestué, who ran 9.93. That leg wasn’t good enough for the Spaniards, whose 42.96 left them sixth and out of the final.
Also through from the heat were Switzerland, third in 42.64.
The United States, running in heat two, were the quickest qualifiers, the quartet of Tamari Davis, Twanisha Terry, Tamara Clark, and Melissa Jefferson, clocking a season’s best 41.59.
Cote d'ivoire, an area record 41.90; Italy, a national record 42.14; the Netherlands, 42.53; and Poland, 42.65, are also through.
The women’s 4x100 final takes place tomorrow at 2:53 p.m.
