Lions humbled in MoBay
Green hat trick hands Mt Pleasant 5-0 win
A HAT TRICK from Daniel Green and strikes from substitutes Alex Marshall and Jabari Howell led Mount Pleasant Football Academy to an impressive 5-0 win over Humble Lion FC in their Jamaica Premier League (JPL) football match at the Montego Bay Sports Complex yesterday.
Mount Pleasant remain first in standings with 19 wins, 4 draws, and two losses, putting them on 61 points. Humble Lions remain at the bottom of the standings with 15 points stemming from two wins, nine draws, and now 14 losses.
Overwhelming favourites Mount Pleasant took full advantage early courtesy of Green in the fifth minute. He would double that lead in the 23rd minute from the penalty spot.
Marshall then unleashed a screamer into the top corner from outside the box to score in the 57th minute before Howell produced a moment of brilliance in the 80th.
Green scored from close range off an assist from Marshall to complete his hat trick in the 84th minute to register his 10th goal of the season.
Mount Pleasant showed their dominance early, leaving no room for error. Humble Lion showed a few glimpses in the first half, but didn’t take advantage of those chances.
In truth, the result could have been more lopsided had Mount Pleasant taken advantage of some of their chances, particularly in the second half.
Mount Pleasant’s head coach, Theodore ‘Tappa’ Whitmore, was pleased with the effort.
“We wanted to start well. The last two games we played, we didn’t start the way we wanted to and we conceded four goals in the last two games,” Whitmore said.
“I think it was a better start this afternoon and gave us the momentum going into the game. The second half, I think we came out and dominated.
“Every game we try to come out, work hard and do the things that get us success. We are not at a place where we want to be yet, so each game we just want to progress,” he added.
Green said the team was intent on being more clinical.
“We’ve been working on finishing, doing training session and a lot of shootings. We’re doing a lot of work, so everyone is very hungry up top, scoring goals,” said Green.
Meanwhile, newly appointed head coach at Humble Lion, Alex Thomas, said it was a disappointing loss.
“It is disappointing to go down five-nil against the lead leaders. However, my team will show respect to Mount Pleasant team. Well-coached team that played well, nevertheless we have to show up on the day,” Thomas said.
