Cavalier come from behind to clip Chapelton
Second-half goals from Jalmaro Calvin and Shaquille Stein carried Cavalier to a come-from-behind 2-1 win over Chapelton Maroons in their Jamaica Premier League (JPL) game at the Waterhouse Mini-Stadium yesterday.
In an impressive second-half performance, Cavalier turned the tables with goals from Calvin and Stein to climb to 44 points in the standings, five adrift of third-place Montego Bay United.
“I thought we did (control the game),” Speid commented. “And we should have had a couple more goals, too,” he said.
The veteran tactician noted that they are also overcoming their recent injury crisis and nearing their best again.
“Having Adrian Reid back from injury is a plus. So we are slowly filling out all the positions that we had some weaknesses. So everything is coming back to normality. We are coming back as a squad and a team. So I am pleased right now,” he added.
Chapelton started better yesterday and looked the more likely to score, and they took the lead after 25 minutes through Neshawn Bennett’s strike.
After the goal, Chapelton continued to have the better of play going forward and wasted a few other opportunities to extend their lead.
However, after the interval, Cavalier gradually worked themselves into the game, and in the 69th minute, Calvin buried an opportunity to even the score at 1-1.
Then with minutes to go, Stein secured all three points for Speid’s team with an 82nd-minute strike.
Chapelton coach Jermaine Douglas said that although his team played well for an hour, it was not enough to get a result and they must do more to pick up points.
“I thought we played well in the first half. We didn’t start badly in the second half either, but when the legs started going, we just didn’t have the depth on the bench to impact the game how we really wanted.
“Hopefully, we get some players back to start the third round. We have to find ways to get results. It is not just good to say we had a good 45 minutes or a good match. We have to find ways to get results and get points on the board,” he said.
Chapelton are 12th with 22 points. They sit just three points above Vere Phoenix, outside the relegation zone.
