Molynes comeback hurts struggling Vere
MOLYNES UNITED came from two goals down to win in time added, leaving Vere United heartbroken in the sole Jamaica Premier League on at the Anthony Spaulding Sports Complex yesterday.
Robino Gordon opened the scoring for Vere in just the second minute of play before doubling the lead in 10th in a furious start to a game between relegation-threatened opponents.
The frantic pace continued, with Nicache Murray opening the scoring for Molynes three minutes later. The result took on even more serious meaning when a minute into the second half, Marlon Pennicooke levelled the scores, setting up a frenetic finish.
Molynes’ Jason Wright entered the fray at the 74th minute, replacing Pennicooke in what proved to be a pivotal substitution.
In fact, there were a number of substitutions in the second half from both coaches in a bid to change the game.
The battle of the coaches began when Vere’s Lenny Hyde brought on Tyreek Magee in the 58th minute. Three minutes later, Molynes coach Jermaine Thomas responded with bringing on Rashawn Livingston for Shamaro Dennis.
Hyde responded to that as well, bringing on Michael Forbes for Kevaun Atkinson, before Thomas countered with the double substitution, letting Wright and Dhumar McLaughlin loose.
The Vere coach again countered, replacing Kyle Butler with Sean Leighton, and Denzil McKenzie with Destiny Aladipo.
In the 87th minute, Thomas brought on Suejay Graham and Calos Cooper before Wright, in the first minute of added time, separated the teams.
“We went down early. Two goals. They really fought. We started slow but showed character in coming back and getting the last one in the 90th-plus. That will do a world of good for our confidence going forward. So overall, it was a good result,” Thomas told Knockingz tv.
The result means that Molynes leapfrogged Harbour View to stand 10th on 26 points, two more than the Stars of the East, while Vere remains second from bottom on 19. Humble Lion a last on 18 points.
Vere and Molynes have now played one more game than everybody else.
