DUNBEHOLDEN FOOTBALL Club defeated Molynes United 2-0 at the Waterhouse Stadium last night to climb seven places up the Jamaica Premier League (JPL) standings into sixth place.

Nicholas Nelson scored a 16th-minute penalty before Clive Wedderburn’s 80th-minute tap-in secured the result. But coach Damion Gordon believed their margin of victory should have been bigger.

“We played well overall but I think we could have executed a little bit better.

“Defensively we were good. Our build-up phase was impressive as well. So overall it’s a good performance by the team, coming off the 2-1 loss to Montego Bay,” he said.

Dunbeholden were impressive from the start, controlling the game though their patient, short-passing game, and in the 16th minute it paid dividends as they were awarded a penalty, and Nelson converted the spot kick to put them in the lead.

Molynes came into their own in the latter stages of the first half and showed some attacking initiative, coming very close from a freekick from Marlon Pennicooke in the 30th minute, while Enrique Gordon tested Peter Harrison with a well-struck volley from 23 yards out in time added.

However, Dunbeholden regained the momentum in the final minutes and could have done better with a couple of threatening moves before the interval.

Molynes made a number of changes at half time and were much better at the start of the second half.

However, their only real chance came in the 56th minute, when Odane Murray’s shot was saved by Harrison.

Dunbeholden then created a flurry of chances that they failed to capitalise on. Nelson, for instance, missed two glaring sitters.

Richard Anderson then forced Darren Donaie into a spectacular save with a volley from outside the box.

Minutes later, Odean Pennycooke headed straight to Donaie from six yards, from a corner before blasting the rebound high and wide.

Wedderburn had the next big chance in the 72nd minute after Donaie spilled a cross, but he blasted over the top.

The Portmore-based club eventually got a second with 10 minutes to go, after Nelson turned his marker and centred for Wedderburn to tap home from two yards.

Molynes coach Jermaine Thomas, said his team, never recovered from a slow start to the match.

“We never started well. We kept turning over the ball. We kept giving the ball away in the first 15-20 minutes. So we never got settled. And that tipped the balance Dunbeholden’s way,” he stated.

In the day’s other game, Harbour View came from behind to tick a win over the struggling Waterhouse.

Colrado Murray opened the scoring for Waterhouse in the fourth minute but Rohan Brown’s 86th-minte effort and Trayvone Reid’s goal late in time added (90+6) gave the visitors all three points.
