VMBS-Harbour View partnership shows trust in JPL – Hill
CEO OF the Professional Football Jamaica Limited (PFJL) Owen Hill says the reaffirming of Victoria Mutual Building Society’s (VMBS) partnership with the Jamaica Premier League(JPL), as well as the former’s sponsorship of Harbour View Football Club, shows solidarity and faith in the product.
On Wednesday, at the offices of VMBS, the PFJL and VMBS extended their partnership for another year, taking it to four years, and Hill said they remain grateful for the trust the group has placed in them.
“It’s a sign of solidarity. It’s a show of faith. VM has always been one of our stronger partners in our country’s development and we use sports as a vehicle.
“Having them re-signed, they are pretty much a part of our family. They have been very vocal about young adults through sports, and Harbour View have always shown that they want to protect and promote.
“So brands like VM reaffirming their commitment with the Jamaica Premier League, is a sign of good faith and we are very grateful,” he said.
Clover Moore, vice-president of corporate affairs and communications at VMBS, said the organisation not only provides financial support to Harbour View and the league, it also offers financial education sessions and workshops. VMBS also has players come in for different talks, such as how to start saving for mortgages.
“We believe in transforming their futures and as part of our partnership over the years, we provide financial education sessions and workshops. And we are committed to build out on that partnership,” she said.
She added that the east Kingston club have a rich legacy and history, along with core values they can identify with as an organisation.
“This is year four of our partnership with the JPL, supporting the Harbour View Football Club, and we value this partnership because this club has over 50 years [of] history, and they have done such amazing work as a community club.
“As part of the Premier League, they continue to help footballers advance on the world stage. Seventy-five players have been exported from the club. So there is legacy, commitment, and there’s discipline, and that’s a great fit for VM, because we believe in empowerment, advancement and inclusion,” Moore added.
Harbour View general manger, Clyde Juridieni, called the partnership a marriage his club wants to continue to build on.
“It’s a marriage of sorts. Coming on the first year we started on the highest you can get. Immediately with our association with VM, we won.
“This is the fourth year and we hope the fourth of many more years partnership with VM, through the PFJL.
“The Harbour View Football Club is proud to be represented by this auspicious mutual society that has a long history, much longer than ours. So we have good examples to follow, and we look to build a long-lasting and beneficial relationship,” he said.
