Supernatural Power ready for big run
SUPERNATURAL POWER’S first brush with grade-one horses, two Saturday’s ago in the seven-furlong Gold Cup, took her within a length and a quarter of Mouttet Mile runner-up, LEGACY ISLE, with whom she almost sat level at the scale.
Added to her leap in class, SUPERNATURAL POWER was slowly away, having to chase lightweight PACK PLAYS’ splits of 34.1, 46.3, 58.4 and 1:11.0, yet closed two and three-quarter lengths inside the final furlong.
In a cruel act of handicapping madness, SUPERNATURAL POWER, with one open-allowance win under her girth, was actually allotted more weight than PACK PLAYS, a multiple open-allowance winner.
Nevertheless, SUPERNATURAL POWER, running without the visor in which she had notched a hat trick of wins heading into the Gold Cup, gave it her all against colts including her stablemate, runner-up RIDEALLDAY, a winner of two open-allowance races, yet only three pounds heavier than the freshman filly.
With the Gold Cup baptism of fire behind her, SUPERNATURAL POWER actually represents grade-one LEGACY ISLE, RIDEALLDAY and PACK PLAYS, all rolled into one, with absolutely no danger in the Viceroy.
Forget her stablemates, up-for-sale MAJOR DANGER and INSPIRE FORCE, they are merely out to fill the field, ensuring a quorum of at least six runners. TIZ TOK, who SUPERNATURAL FORCE had dismissed at seven furlongs in her previous race, was almost six lengths behind her in the Gold Cup.
The locals in the line-up, TIGERAMEDAT and MAMMA MIA are on different missions, filler and spoiler, respectively. MAMMA MIA will try using her speed to steal the race from in front after her mild 6-1 upset in the I’msatisfied.
Though a brave mare, who has given the likes of fellow local-bred ATOMICA hell on the lead, setting up races for stablemate FUNCAANDUN, MAMMA MIA’s connections might have to keep watch on her cooling-out hours should she attempt a gate-to-wire escapade with 121lb.
