CWI, WIPA pay tribute to title-winning Red Force

ST JOHN’S, Antigua (CMC):

The Trinidad and Tobago Red Force are champions of the West Indies Championship for the first time in two decades and Cricket West Indies (CWI) President, Dr Kishore Shallow, led the tributes to the new champions, praising their discipline, consistency, and resilience throughout a memorable campaign.

“This achievement is a testament to the team’s hard work, preparation, and consistency throughout the season,” said Dr Shallow. “The players and management demonstrated tremendous character and professionalism, particularly in a high-pressure final against a very strong Guyana Harpy Eagles side. Their success reflects the rich cricketing tradition of Trinidad and Tobago and the continued strength of first-class cricket within the region.”

Guyana entered the final chasing an extraordinary fourth consecutive championship title, having claimed eight of the last 10 regional four-day crowns. But the Red Force stood firm, ending a decades-long drought that stretched back 20 years.

Dr Shallow also acknowledged the quality of this year’s tournament, noting that the West Indies Championship “remains a vital pillar in our cricket development pathway and continues to provide an important platform for players to sharpen their skills".

The CWI president extended further congratulations to the Harpy Eagles for an outstanding season and thanked all participating teams, officials, territorial boards, sponsors, and fans across the Caribbean.

Meanwhile, the West Indies Players’ Association (WIPA) also hailed the Red Force’s triumph. WIPA President and CEO, Wavell Hinds, lauded the Rayad Emrit-coached side for their championship run.
