Region preparing for COP26 conference
Caribbean Community (CARICOM) environment ministers on Friday began a meeting in preparation for the region’s participation at the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP26) that opens in Scotland at the end of this month.
CARICOM Secretary General Dr Carla Barnett, addressing the preparatory meeting, noted that as the region makes its final push to consolidate its common positions and priorities for COP26, the event marks the culmination of several months of preparation by the 15-member regional grouping.
“Our discussions have been taking place amidst a hectic schedule of international preparatory meetings which saw active participation by CARICOM. This iterative process allowed us to crystallise the region’s priorities and positions, which have been collated into the Ministerial Brief that has been submitted to member states,” she told the virtual meeting.
