Government and police in Guyana probe sexual assault videos circulating on social media
GEORGETOWN, Guyana, CMC – The Guyanese government on Friday said that it had launched an investigation into videos circulating on social media alleging sexual assault.
“The Ministry of Home Affairs expresses grave concern over the circulation of explicit videos on various social media platforms, which appear to document an alleged sexual assault involving a female victim,” it said.
It said that in response to the seriousness of this matter, the Guyana Police Force has launched a formal investigation in collaboration with the Ministry of Home Affairs and the Ministry of Human Services and Social Security.
“We urge members of the public to refrain from sharing these videos out of respect for the victim and the integrity of the investigation,” the ministry said, without giving any further details regarding the videos.
“The Guyana Police Force is actively working to identify and make contact with the victim involved in the incident,” it said, adding that members of the public who have any relevant or helpful information are strongly urged to contact the police.
