GEORGETOWN (CMC):

President Irfaan Ali has paid tribute to veteran educator, Daniel Williams, a candidate of the ruling People’s Progressive Party/ Civic (PPP/C) for the September 1 general and regional elections, who collapsed and died while campaigning on Monday night.

“To his wife, two children, and other loved ones, I extend my heartfelt condolences. I pray that God grant you strength and courage during this difficult time. We thank our comrade for his dedicated service. We will honour his work with a deeper commitment and hard work to ensure the development of Region Seven and our country continues under the PPP/C,” Ali said.

Williams, the headmaster of the Three Miles Secondary School in Bartica, Region Seven (Cuyuni-Mazaruni), was addressing the meeting when he collapsed. He was rushed to the Bartica Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

An autopsy is expected to be conducted later on Tuesday amid reports that he may have suffered a heart attack while on the campaign.

Williams served as an educator for over 30 years.
