Delve deeper into research

The Editor,
Sir:

In addition to fostering higher education, universities and colleges are also to take the charge in research. As a first-time education research student, I initially felt overwhelmed with my research topic that was a local issue with huge implications, and was concerned with the fact that there was little or no local-reference literature.

Since the research topic is a universal one, I was of the view that there would be local, as well as international, literature. Being made aware of this lack of local literature, naturally there was the urge to change the topic, but I decided against that after consultation with my lecturer.

One hopes that other frustrated research students like me will go ahead and complete their papers, which may very well be a source to future education researchers and/or researchers in general.

The onus is, therefore, on our local universities and colleges to delve deeper into the field of research. Research that will venture into new horizons; research that will build on the foundations that are already set; research that will cause the necessary investment in our youth; research that will make us a force to be reckoned with; and, finally, research that will lead to exploring our peoples, tropical climate, technology, geography, education system, and our arts and culture.

The minds are here and we have done it before and can compete with any Ivy League university or college in the world.
