Of this and that

Dears, there's never a dull moment here in Jamaica, as just when the conversation was all about drought and the new luxury called water, after the extradition matter, someone introduced the Manatt, Phelps & Phillips matter!
First there was the prime minister's denial of the claims in Parliament; then there was the minister of information, seemingly calling for the reprimand of the man at the centre of it all - Harold Brady. Then there was Brady's response which left no doubt that the minister was playing to the gallery of public opinion. Now there is this whole new can of worms, opened up by JLP General Secretary Karl Samuda, which suggests that the real people wielding the power of the Government are not necessarily the elected or appointed officials, but a more clandestine grouping
Dears, stay tuned. It makes for great political high drama. And so, we await the next instalment.
Then, my daahlings, it's known in fashionable circles, nationally and internationally, as simply one of the finest boutique hotels, not only on the island, but in the region. It's the favourite destination for the London 'it' crowd, blue bloods and celebrities, and definitely the place to chill out for Kingston's 'in' crowd. And located as it is, in Port Antonio, not on the beach, but beautifully carved into the hillside of San San, y'all know we are talking something extra special.
And little wonder then that Trip Advisor.Com, has rated Gee Jam - a member of Chris Blackwell's Island Outpost family of boutique hotels - as number one, of the 304 hotels it rated in Jamaica.
Dears, it is one fine hotel, and fabulously so, but congratulations are definitely in order and extended to Jon Baker and his team for their vision in bringing their dream to fruition. In building and maintaining GeeJam, they have enhanced the Jamaican tourism product and its international appeal!
Jennifer Lim is expected back shortly, from her trip to Israel! Happy birthday wishes to Jamaica's Ambassador Designate to the United States Audrey Marks who celebrates her birthday today, April 30, as she readies herself to present her credentials in the power capital of the world, Washington D.C. Congratulations and happy birthday wishes are definitely in order!!
Also celebrating today is businessman Eddie DePass.

And belated greetings to Dr D.K. Duncan who celebrated his birthday yesterday, Thursday, the 29th; as did the lovely Roxann Francis. Also celebrating his birthday on May 3, is Richard Bourke, general manager of Breezes Trelawny, but the party is tomorrow.
Happy returns all around with Champagne toasts and Beluga treats!!
Then tickets are out for the Association of Friends and Family Against Substance Abuse (AFOFOSA)'s now annual Mother's Day fund-raising brunch, hosted by its president, Steve Ashley, and his fabulous wife Betty-May Ashley, at Betty's Orchid Gardens, at their Norbrook Drive residence, in St Andrew.
My daahlings, at just $1,500 per ticket, not only does one contribute to a worthy cause, it also affords one the opportunity to win a gate prize of a weekend for two at the adults-only all-inclusive SuperClubs Hedonism III Resort, near Runaway Bay, St Ann; the latest cellphone from Digicel; plus other prizes and surprises in Dutch auctions and raffles. Funds raised will go towards the fight against substance abuse.
Talk about partying for a cause; this is definitely one such event so y'all know where this scribe will be on Mother's Day!
