Four years after he won the pre-final of the Junior Class at the Rotax Finals in Portugal, 19-year-old Timothy Stewart demonstrated that he still has the talent to represent Jamaica at the international level.

This he did while registering a convincing win in the Shifter Class during the pre-lunch period of the go-kart race meet at the Palisadoes International Raceway yesterday.

Stewart, who is pursuing a career in mechanical engineering at Ryerson University, Canada, won by a wide margin ahead of Matthew Williams, Christopher Myers and Colin Daley Jr, respectively.

"It feels good winning again," said Stewart, who is hoping to get an opportunity to race professionally after completing his studies.

Apart from Stewart's convincing win, the third round of the Rotax Mini Max series was a thriller. There was a ding-dong battle between Thomas Issa and Fraser McConnell in the early stages before Williams and Myers joined the group, and the latter moved in-front to take the chequered flag.

However, race-meet scrutineer Christopher Smellie told The Gleaner late yesterday afternoon that Myers, who won three races for the day, was disqualified as the winner of that event based on a technical infringement.

The provisional results for yesterday's meet suggested that Joshua Sirgany (Micro Max), Timothy Stewart (Shifter), Peter Wong (Rotax Masters) and Thomas Issa (Mini Max) were the top performers in the respective classes.
