No increase for JPS

Published:Thursday | June 10, 2010 | 12:00 AM

THE EDITOR, Sir:

As reported, the Jamaican dollar as at June 1 has appreciated by four per cent against the United States dollar, and this trend appears to be continuing.

This, obviously, will be to the benefit of the Jamaica Public Service Company. There should, therefore, be no necessity, unless for greed, for the planned increase in electricity rates being requested.

The agreed arrangement would have been dependent on the continuing depreciation of the Jamaican dollar, which now is not the case.

I am, etc.,

Editor's note: The rate adjustment due to JPS is based on movements in the inflation rates here and in the United States.
