Blossom Deidrick, manager, Lannaman and Morris Shipping Limited, has been installed as president of the Kiwanis Club of St Andrew. She was installed during a ceremony on September 30 at The Jamaica Pegasus hotel.

Deidrick, a member of the club for 13 years, said she was humbled by the confidence placed in her by her fellow Kiwanians. "I consider it an awesome privilege to be a part of this noble organisation that continues to extend services to the less fortunate in our society, not only in Jamaica but the wider Caribbean and the world at large."

She said despite the current economic situation, she was certain that the team in place at St Andrew would work diligently to achieve the best results. "I have accepted your vote of confidence to lead the next administration and I am very optimistic that through perseverance, we will surmount the challenges faced as we continue the quest to serve and build our club," the newly-installed president said.

Service leadership

The new president noted that the new administration will focus on the club's service leadership programme. "Our youth are the future leaders of the country and we need to mould and empower them so that our country will benefit from their training and expertise," Deidrick said.

She thanked her employers, Lannaman & Morris Shipping, especially its chairman and chief executive officer, Harry Maragh, who not only encouraged her to take on the presidency of the club, but also afforded her time from her regular work schedule to give back to the community.
