John Crow's is a trendy restaurant and bar, with a modern vibe, where head chef Godfrey West crafts dishes for discerning tastebuds.

West, who has been at the Main Street eatery in Ocho Rios, St Ann, for three years, fell in love with cooking in 1978.

He was a mechanic before he discovered what would become his lifetime skill.

The father of three said he started as a dishwasher in a restaurant before getting a promotion six months later.

At John Crow's, which was established in 2005, he loves to create local dishes like oxtail and curried goat.

He brings his love for food home, where he enjoys cooking Chinese dishes.

"I love to cook fried rice for mommy (his wife); of course she loves that," he said.

For The Gleaner-sponsored Restaurant Week, West is anticipating an active time.

He whipped up two dishes: Bruschetta and shrimp cocktail.
