Roxanne Wright - the vision of the leaders

Fresh out of University, Roxanne Wright joined the Jamaica Money Market Brokers (JMMB) family four years ago. Having done summer stints while in university and having experienced what life at the institution was like Wright was thrilled at her job offer. "I always wanted to align myself with a type of institution like this," said Wright, whose beautiful face was part of the team in the anniversary ad in last week Sunday's Gleaner.

Employed as an express transaction officer at the Knutsford branch, she primarily deals with investments and encashments.

As for further growth within the organisation, she says the next likely stage for her would be to serve as a client relations officer. "Customer service is where I see myself; having the information to give people. I am also a believer of client intimacy."

On the street the word is that the financial institution operates as a family unit and apparently this is true, as the smiling Wright nods in agreement. "It is really about the vision of the leaders. They stress togetherness whether business or personal, and there is really a genuine feel here."

With a variety of services offered by the investment institution, the 25 year-old says there is hardly any client who would not find an investment package to suit their needs. "We have personalised services and the best interest of our clients at heart, and we stick to that. We have a wide range of services from cambio services to general account management. We go the extra mile for our customers."

Wright, when not executing her duties at the investment house, is heavily involved in the arts and is an aspiring singer.

Nikki-Jean Whyte Amir, proud of her job

Nikki-Jean Whyte Amir is proud that her workplace is celebrating 18 years.

The sprightly young woman does not miss the opportunity to introduce you to one of the Jamaica Money Market Brokers financial products. She speaks highly of her company and without reservations tells you what JMMB can do for you.

The express transactions officer, at the company's Montego Bay branch is proud to be apart of the company's accomplishments and that the organisation is celebrating it's 18th year.

"It makes me feel very proud, because nothing is promised and we know it is God who has allowed us to see another successful year," said Whyte Amir, who has been with the company for five years.

She started as a utilities officer - filling and sending documents, moved on to her current position, where she is better able to flex her love for finances.

But that's not all she is interested in one day she would like to get into physical and wellness consultancy.

"I don't believe knowledge should be wasted," she said. The knowledge she refers to is her minor in psychology.

She assisted with JMMB's 'Biggest Loser' competition, which is geared towards getting the company's staff on the road to health through a weight-loss programme. She assisted in helping to see that people keep on track with the diets prescribed.

"It's really a win-win situation for everyone," said Whyte Amir.

Nardia James answered the call

When Jamaica Money Market Brokers (JMMB) went public with its stock eight years ago, the company sent out a call; Nardia James was among those who answered.

"They were looking for 'going public officers'," she recalled. "When clients came in, we would inform them on the public offer and help process their applications." It was initially a six-week stint, but JMMB offered her a permanent job in January 2003. She's been there ever since and definitely feels like one of the family.

"The fun part is being in the world of the clients and interacting with the team members daily. You enjoy coming to work every day," she said. "It (family atmosphere) starts at the top and filters down to all of us." Her foray into the field of finance shouldn't surprise anyone as she had an affinity for it years ago.

"I would say to some extent that I am a numbers person. In high school I did all those subjects, accounts, principles of business," she revealed. James is a client relations officer (administration)/disbursement officer. Her duties include checking off accounts and doing both lodgements and encashments. She also scrutinises cheques, making sure the client meets all of JMMB's requirements and that the correct instructions from the client are carried out.

"You don't want to hear 'I didn't make that request' from them," she laughed. "I make sure all the 'T's are crossed and 'I's are dotted." The less-used but still mentioned 'r' word, recession, hasn't shaken the loyal JMMB clients, and James feels part of it comes from 'the JMMB way' of dealing with customers.

"They really do trust us. It's not like they're moving their funds. They feel comfortable. Here, it's more like a family-oriented organisation." They say if you love what you do, you'll never work a day in your life and James intends to keep progressing. She is finishing up her bachelor's degree in management studies, with an eye on pursuing the master's degree soon.

"It (studying and working) has been OK so far, juggling everything. It's hard, but I embrace the challenge," she said. And speaking of challenges, one you do not want is trying to keep yourself financially afloat in your 60s. James offers some advice.

"Start investing now. It's never too late or too early to start. Once you have put that first foot out, you can look forward to a really bright future. At retirement, you really should be living comfortably."

Jacqueline Tomlin-Brooks - they care about me

Client Relations officer at Jamaica Money Market Brokers (JMMB) Mandeville branch, Jacqueline Tomlin-Brooks, really enjoys what she does and where she works.

"What I love most about working with JMMB is the new 'family' that I am now a part of," she told Flair in an email interview.

Tomlin-Brooks has been part of this family since she joined the company in 2006 as an express transactions officer.

Her job at JMMB was the end result of her search for knowledge.

"I think as a child I probably wanted to be a flight attendant like my older sister. But I wanted to work in the financial sector because I realised that a lot of persons (including myself), were not aware of the financial opportunities that exist, and I wanted to learn about it and to help myself and others to improve their financial position."

She assumed her current role in 2004 and thoroughly enjoys what she does. "I really enjoy the relationship with my teammates. I love that my job allows me to interact a lot with clients on the phone, especially our overseas clients. I am able to assist them to do what they are not able to do personally (in-branch). I love helping people."

Her other responsibilities include helping the branch and company remain compliant with 'Know Your Client' policies. She also prepares written communication for clients regarding their accounts, processes standing orders and prepares documents for auditors and companies with regards to their accounts.

Tomlin-Brooks said her JMMB family means a lot to her. "Donna is not Mrs Duncan-Scott. To us, she is Donna - the warm, bubbling personality who greets us with a hug. These people care about me, not just my contribution to the company, but about me and my immediate family."
